Write your Name in Binary Code!

Step 1: Print the binary code worksheets at the link above. If you don’t have access to a printer, that’s okay! Manually copy the binary code worksheets on a blank piece of paper—it shouldn’t take long!

Step 2: Choose one colour to represent “0” and one colour to represent “1.”

Step 3: Write each letter of your name down the side of the paper. Place one letter on each line on the left-hand side.

Step 4: Use the code found on the worksheet to colour in the letters.

Are you up for a challenge? Try it backward! Choose words and colours in the squares only without adding the letters to the left hand side. You can switch papers with a friend or sibling. Try to decode it!

Binary Code Complete! Congratulations!

How It Works

Binary code is like the secret language that computers use to communicate. Imagine it as a special code made up of only two numbers: 0 and 1. These numbers are the building blocks of all information in computers. In binary, 0 stands for "off" or "no," while 1 represents "on" or "yes." By combining these 0s and 1s in different patterns, we create a language that computers can understand. It's like the computer's own version of a secret code, helping it process information, play games, and do all the cool things you see on your devices!
